Four months to go…

Hey everyone!

Or no one.

Probably no one right now…

I have decided to start a blog to share with my future followers my hopes, anxieties, expectations and general thoughts regarding my future as a Peace Corps volunteer. With my departure date less than four months away, I seem to be experiencing a million different emotions when I think about the next two years of my life. To give you all an explanation of how I got to this point, here is brief timeline:

Feb. 11th, 2014: Submitted my application (which has since changed to a much abridged version)

March 4th, 2014: Was contacted about an interview

March 21st, 2014: Interviewed in Carlisle and got a “soft” yes

May 8th, 2014: Received an email saying I was being considered to teach Health in Guatemala

July 7th, 2014: Was informed that I was then being considered for an African location instead of Guatemala (much to my parents surprise and initially, dismay)

July 15th, 2014: Accepted an invitation to serve in Malawi!

Immediately upon accepting my invitation, I received countless tasks from the PC headquarters; everything from signing up for life insurance (a bit frightening to picture myself flying back to the States in a casket), to answering a questionnaire that asked me if I could carry 50lbs (I think so?). In addition, I have been to the doctor’s office over five times in the past five months. Though it has been a lot of work for both my parents and me, I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. In only 96 days, I will be departing for Malawi!
